Like many organizations, we have begun exploring artificial intelligence (AI) tools to make some of our tasks easier. To stay consistent with what we stand for, and to be transparent with our readers, we have set clear criteria for how we use these tools and where their limits lie.

Authorship is always human

Our articles, research, reports and public statements are conceived, researched and written by members of the TEDIC team. We do not allow AI tools or agents to write the texts we publish, in whole or in part, or to make editorial or publishing decisions. Whoever signs a text is accountable for every word, and AI is never credited as an author or co-author.

Using AI to improve our writing

AI tools may be used to support texts already written by our team: to check spelling and grammar, improve clarity, or suggest alternative wording and titles. Every suggestion is reviewed by a person and, where appropriate, rewritten. AI helps polish the text; it does not produce it.

Research and verification

AI is not a source of information, and using it as one is prohibited. Every piece of data we publish is checked against primary sources. AI tools may support internal tasks, such as transcribing interviews or organizing materials, always with human verification and never as a published final product. Any research that uses these tools will say so in a disclaimer.

Translations, images and audiovisual content

We may use AI to support the translation of our own texts, always reviewed by a person fluent in both languages. We do not generate images, audio or video that imitate real people, events or documents. If we use an AI-generated illustration, we say so in the credits.

Data protection and choice of tools

We do not enter personal data, sensitive information, or details about the cases and people we support into AI tools. We prioritize free and open-source software and services that do not use our content to train their models, and we assess how each tool handles data before adopting it.

Transparency

When AI plays a significant role in a publication, such as a translation, a transcription or an illustration, we disclose it at the bottom of the content. Spelling and style corrections do not require disclosure.

A policy under review

AI technologies change quickly, and so will this policy. We will review it at least once a year, or whenever the tools we use change. In effect since April 8, 2026.
