Ensuring women\u2019s political participation on equal terms requires an environment free from violence. Although social media and the digital sphere promised to democratize the public voices, these spaces have become hostile environments where violence and the manipulation of news operate as tools for systematic discrediting, particularly against women who take on political roles in Paraguay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To understand this phenomenon from a local perspective, we launched this zine in spanish, titled Gendered Disinformation Targeting Women in Politics.<\/em> Here we examine the system that perpetuates these harmful practices through strategies rooted in sexist stereotypes and attacks on women\u2019s private lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The zine also explores how digital tools and algorithms accelerate the circulation of negative narratives about women. Unlike men in politics, who are more often criticized primarily for their performance in office, women face accusations involving personal favors and emotionally charged attacks. These dynamics give rise to Technology Facilitated Gender Based Violence (TFGBV).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Protecting the integrity of public debate and preventing technology from being used as a vehicle for exclusion is essential to upholding human rights. This is why this work aims to serve as an educational resource for activists, communicators, students, and the public at large, helping to continue building a more informed and democratic public conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
