On August 12 and 13, in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), we will participate in CPDP LatAm 2026, the Latin American conference on data governance, privacy and technology. This edition, organized by the Center for Technology and Society of FGV Direito Rio, will be dedicated to data governance for digital sovereignty, cooperation and interoperability.
As part of the agenda, Jazmín Ruiz Díaz, Coordinator of Gender and Technology Projects at TEDIC, will participate as a panelist in two sessions:
- Gender-based violence facilitated by technology in Latin America: AI, data governance and regulatory responses, on August 12, from 4:15 PM to 5:30 PM. The panel will analyze how artificial intelligence and data processing intervene in these forms of violence, as well as the challenges the region faces in building effective regulatory responses with a gender perspective.
- Surveillance and technological dependence from a Latin American perspective, a debate space on the cession of sovereignty in the name of modernization, the governance of digital public systems, the use of security discourses to justify surveillance practices, and the incorporation of automation and artificial intelligence in critical infrastructures. From TEDIC we will share findings from our research on technological sovereignty, automation and surveillance, and reflect on the opacity of public procurement, regulatory gaps, and possible alternatives in the face of technological dependence in the region.
